    Description

Offered is a scarce and unusual Marilyn Monroe/ automobilia item, a two page promotional advertising ephemera piece for the Singer Motor Company's SM1500cc sports car. This 2-page fold out promotional piece reproduces the front cover of the June, 19, 1953 issue of "Motor World" magazine. It  features Marilyn on the front page, posing on the front fender of a Singer motorcar with the banner across shouting, "Road Testing the New Singer SM 1500c".  Folds open to an article "Road Testing the singer SM 1500c: A Four Seater Sports Car" illustrated with photos. The back of the piece features an ad for the Singer. Center crease and a bit of corner wear but clean and attractive. Singer Motors was a British car maker that began as a 19th century bicycle company and in the early 20th century made motorcycles and "motorwheels". In 1912 they produced one of the first smaller economy sized automobiles that were notable for their solid, reliable construction.  In 1948, they produced the first model 1500cc streamlined vehicle; in 1954 they renamed it the "Hunter" but by then the company was in trouble and was sold in 1955 to the Rootes Group which by 1970 was in trouble itself and the Singer line ended.
