With November nearly over, and as the sun sets earlier and earlier every day, there is no better way to unwind than with a good movie and some popcorn.
This November brought a plethora of new films to theatres and streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Max, Hulu, and more. So, take a look at our list of some great new movies you can watch from now till New Year’s!
In the mood to dive into something action-packed? Well, Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sequel of the Best Picture winner back in 2000 is finally here! Returning to ancient Rome some 20 years after the original film, Gladiator II stars Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal, and the dynamic Denzel Washington.
Mescal plays Lucius, the son of Maximus and Lucilla, who becomes a gladiator when the Roman army invades his home, to restore Rome’s glory. It seems that the historical drama, action, and spectacle of this sequel will not disappoint fans of the first Gladiator movie.
What’s even more fascinating is that Bangladeshi viewers can go see Gladiator II on the big screen at Star Cineplex as it’s been here since 15 November! This was the first time a major Hollywood sequel was released in Bangladesh before it hits theatres in the US!
If the great follow-up Dune: Part Two was not exciting enough for you, this November also brings the original TV series Dune: Prophecy, which takes place 10,000 years before Timothée and Zendaya walked the sands.
The story traces the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit, a secretive order of female beings endowed with magical powers that subtly govern the whole “Dune” world. The plot thickens just after a rebellion breaks out in resistance to the “thinking machines” that have conquered mankind.
It premiered on HBO and Max on 17 November, and it promises to elevate the adored brand, known for its mysteries, scandals, betrayals, and expansions of the mythos. So, make sure to add it to your watch list!
If you enjoyed the banter and plot of Moana then get ready to be swept away by Moana 2, which is set to sail out this November. A new adventure for Moana in Oceania is at the heart of Moana 2.
Maui and a fresh crew of explorers join Moana as she follows in the footsteps of her navigational ancestors into unexplored seas, where she will encounter obstacles she has never experienced before. It is anticipated that Moana’s younger sister will have a pivotal part in the film, adding depth to the plot.
The Bangladeshi release date for Moana 2 is set for 27 November, 2024, in theatres so you and your family can enjoy a beautiful animated movie, rich in culture, values, excitement, and fun on the big screen!
Seeking something poignant? Small Things Like These, starring Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, takes you on a journey with protagonist Bill Furlong as he faces challenges of past and present, resulting in a point of no return.
With nuns at the core of the power web instead of mobsters, the film plays something like a gangster flick. The tale, which takes place in 1985 and is adapted from a book by Claire Keegan, explores all of the forms of complicity that arise when individuals establish and hold authority.
The film has not yet debuted in Bangladesh, although it is available on Prime Video in the United Kingdom and Ireland. But hey, you may hold off on seeing this film’s sombre vision till the month comes to a close!
Most of us have either seen or heard about The Wizard of Oz. As a prequel to it, Gregory Maguire’s book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West became the basis for the 2024 movie Wicked. Featuring pop singer Ariana Grande, Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey, and actress Cynthia Erivo, it is now the talk of the town.
Elphaba, who is misunderstood because of her green colour, forms an unexpected but deep bond with Glinda, a student who is unyielding in her pursuit of fame. Their lives take drastically different turns after meeting the Wizard of Oz, and their relationship hits a turning point shortly after.
Wicked teaches strong lessons about friendship, understanding, and accepting diversity in addition to its mesmerising plot and music. The film has a global premiere in theatres scheduled for today, 22 November, and will also be released digitally soon after!
